Living with Osteoarthritis? Consider Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium (PPS)
We’re pleased to share some exciting news that was recently featured on 7NEWS Australia. You can watch the story here.
Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium (PPS) is a medication that has shown promising results in helping people manage osteoarthritis (OA), a common condition that causes joint pain and stiffness.
PPS works by targeting inflammation and improving the health of joint cartilage, which can help reduce pain and improve mobility.
Accessing PPS in Australia
There are two main ways patients can access PPS for osteoarthritis:
- Private Treatment
PPS can be accessed privately to treat various forms of osteoarthritis (including knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder) through the TGA Special Access Scheme (SAS). This pathway allows patients to receive PPS under the supervision of a doctor when standard treatments haven’t been effective or suitable.
- Clinical Trial Participation
We are currently recruiting for a new clinical trial:
PARA_OA_012: A Phase 3, Randomised, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Multi-Centre Study to Evaluate the Treatment Effect of Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium Compared to Placebo in Participants with Knee Osteoarthritis Pain.
This trial is specifically for patients with knee osteoarthritis. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either PPS or a placebo, and the study involves multiple visits and assessments over a set period.
